International Refugee Crisis
In the worst refugee crisis since World War II, millions of people are currently fleeing conflict, persecution, and poverty in the Middle East, Sub Saharan Africa and Asia. An estimated 55% of those who are displaced come from Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Syria, Sudan and Somalia. There have been over 3,000 deaths as thousands of refugees attempt to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe in overcrowded and unsafe boats, with more risking their lives to make the journey each day.
A coalition of Irish NGOs including Dóchas, the Irish Association of Non Governmental Development Organisations, has issued a series of joint statements calling for immediate action by the Irish Government on this crisis.
