Haiti - Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew hit the island of Haiti early on Tuesday 4 October, bringing torrential rains, winds of up to 230 km per hour, storm surges and floods. It is believed that up to 90% of some parts of Southern Haiti have been destroyed. The death toll is currently placed at around 900 people, 350,000 people are in need of immediate humanitarian aid and it is believed that up to 5 million people may be affected.

Tens of thousands of people in Haiti are still living in tents following the destruction of the 2010 earthquake. The impact of Hurricane Matthew on these people is potentially devastating.
